In times like these, all of us are at the edge

As group process people, we are being called into more and more challenging spaces as the frameworks of "business as usual" disappear and solid foundations shake. We face uncertainty at work and the unraveling of communities. The people we work with often cannot see a clear pathway forward.

In the Art of Hosting community we have so often spoken about the space between order and chaos - you might say between order and disruption -- as the place where participatory practice serves innovation to thrive.

Now we are being pulled more and more into the space between chaos and chamos -- you might say between disruption and fundamental breakdown -- that edgy place where the old is not yet gone, but the new has also not yet come.

Are you feeling it too?

We know colleagues who feel like the methods they've used up to now are no longer working or they'd love to find a different way of working.

We've seen some colleagues struggling at the edge of their capacity or even on the edge of discomfort about what they are expected to produce as a result of their work. Others feel the edges of their networks fraying.

And some are just plain wondering where to regroup, recharge and grow more courage for what comes next.

Join us in an online community conversation space for questions like:

  • What is hosting or facilitation in these times?
  • Do conversations still matter and what conversations matter now?
  • What is now needed to host a conversation that matters?
  • What is the learning edge for our community right now?
  • How do my personal and work practices need to change?
  • Where can I find some support as the going gets tougher?
  • Where do I put my energy now?

What will we do during the sessions?

Both sessions will follow the same, simple format. We will check in with each other and meet fellow participants.

Then we will open the space and the group will populate the agenda. There will be two Open Space sessions of 40 minutes each. Then we'll come back into the full group to harvest together and check out.

We have a harvesting team who will graphically record the full group sessions and we're inviting anyone else who wants to harvest during the Open Space sessions to contact us and join in.

If you're joining us for the hour of drop in conversation afterwards in the Fireside Room, you can either stay by the fire with your hosts, or propose a topic and adjourn to a breakout room.

I'll join Session 1
I prefer Session 2

You don't need to be part of the Art of Hosting community to participate -- come and be in conversation and learning with us! The invitation is to take part in either or both of the sessions, as you choose.

There is no cost to join, but we invite your generosity to support our hosting work.

Where are you at the edge & what conversations are you longing to have?

We are offering two 3 hour sessions of Open Space conversation on Saturday February 28. Each session will be followed by an hour of drop in conversation. Wherever you are in the world, you are invited!

We will have translation available on Zoom. Please join us for either or both sessions!
