Did you see the frog?

makes me think making meaning stories from the journey Jun 16, 2024

Yesterday started out cool and rainy. I caught up with an old friend of mine in the University town of Erlangen, Germany, north of Munich. We had breakfast together in a delightful café with a fabulous menu.

I’m the kind of person with a talking piece in every pocket, so I laid a painted stone between us on the counter and we had a deep and vulnerable check-in.

I told him that I felt like I’m in the moment of forming the next chapter of my life. I don’t know how that will go, but it’s time to step up, show up, and begin a new phase of creative expression.

When he said to me “I am invested in your well-being.” It really touched my heart. That, for me, is true friendship and “mateship.”

Later we went walking in the botanical gardens. There were crowds of people walking and chatting amidst the greenery.

I was reminded of two previous experiences.

The first was a conversation with a fellow passenger in the seat next to mine on a plane. At the end of it, she said to me: “I never have conversations like this.“ And I thought to myself, I always have conversations like this — because I intend to.

And the second experience was at a beautiful spot called Montezuma’s Well in Arizona.

I had gone in the early morning as I like to do in places like this. This place had been intersection of trade routes for the Americas for centuries. It is a natural aquifer, and the fresh water was bubbling up from the center of the huge pool.

I was sitting by the sparkling water captivated by the dancing spirit, and grateful for my companion of moment. It was a tiny frog sitting on the bush in front of me.

Suddenly, a group of people came walking by laughing and chatting together. They seem so focused on each other, that I wondered how much they noticed of the place.

I wondered if they saw the natural beauty. If they felt the magic. They certainly never noticed the frog.

Sometimes the most magical things are hiding out in plain sight. But you have to make the conditions to see them,. You have to turn your noticing on.

I hope you see the frog today.

PS if you’d like to notice more about yourself and to delve into a question that really matters to you, then why don’t you come and play a Flow Game with me? Dates are coming up on June 23 and June 29.  https://www.getsoaring.com/pl/2148143649
