The gift of being inn conversation together

What is it that we can do together that none of us can do alone?
This is something that we discover every time we come together for a deeply meaningful conversation where the question at the centre of our circle resides in our hearts. We get reminded that there are things none of us can do well alone, but we can do them together.
It is especially important to remember this in times like these when it feels like the ground is shifting in every moment and no one told you the earthquake was coming.
We had our first "WHO AM I NOW?" Conversation on Sunday with a group coming from all around the world. We shared what was troubling us and what was tickling us. We were sad and also joyful. And we were quietly thoughtful together.
This statement in the chat window -- which sounded like a part of a longer poem -- stayed with us:
"Others saw
what I could not see,
which enriched
my own discovery."
The is the superpower of a balanced human being -- the knowing that when we do things together we can be more. This is also what a super "success" focused society and a focus on both self improvement (meaning you are never enough) and profit (meaning you can never have enough) is trying to train us out of.
But underneath it all, we discover again and again that we need each other. We human beings tend to fix our gaze on something or one thing, and then miss what else is right in front of us. Together we can see more. Together our gaze is more multi-faceted. More potent. More hopeful.
What if success was simply living a good life? A conscious life? A life of contribution to the whole? What if?
Sometimes what one person can see uplifts all of us.
